Alex Txikon, MANASLU winter, starts on 18/12/2021

Alex Txikon nació el 12 de Diciembre de 1981 en Lemoa (Bizkaia), en el seno de una numerosísima familia (es el menor de 13 herman@s). Junto al club alpino Ganzabal se inició y formó como montañero, coronando su primer ‘ochomil’, el BroadPeak (8.051m), con apenas 21 años. Desde entonces ha participado en cerca de 30 expediciones, ha hollado 10 de las 14 cumbres más altas del mundo.

Tras seis años trabajando como cámara de altura para ‘Al filo de lo Imposible’ y apoyando también a Edurne Pasaban en su proyecto ‘14x8.000’, en 2011 sintió haber agotado una fase y, declinando la invitación del equipo de Pasaban para el Everest, prefirió embarcarse en nuevas aventuras y nuevas formas de alpinismo. Es así como se inició, entre otros, en las expediciones invernales por las que hoy es especialmente conocido y reconocido.  Estos últimos años ha apostado, en definitiva, por proyectos menos fructíferos o exitosos en cuanto a cimas alcanzadas pero mucho más valiosos en términos alpinísticos. Caras norte, nuevas rutas, estilo alpino, escalada en grandes paredes… una apuesta arriesgada pero infinitamente más satisfactoria.

Ahora regresa al Everest, esta vez irá solo. Pretende ascender los 8.846 m durante la temporada de Primavera 2021. 

Además de alpinista, Alex Txikon es aizkolari y también ha practicado salto BASE; afirma ser un amante insaciable de la aventura, de la exploración, disfruta viajando y conociendo gente, parte para él inherente a cualquier expedición, algo sin lo que no puede concebir sus retos deportivos.

Hiru urte zituela Gorbeia mendi tontorrera igo zen; geroago, Ganzabal Mendi Taldearen baitan hazi zen mendizale gisa eta 21 urte bete berri zituela lehenengo zortzimilakoa igo zuen: Broad Peak (8.051m). Orduz geroztik, 30 bat espediziotan hartu du parte eta, besteak beste, munduko 14 gailur garaienetako 10 zapaldu ditu. Baita munduko bazter eta jende liluragarrienak ezagutu ere.
 
Orain itzuli Everestera, oraingoan bakarrik joango zara. 2021eko udaberrian 8.846 m igotzea du helburu.

Alpinista ez ezik, aizkolaria eta BASE jauzilaria ere bada Txikon; kirol eskaladan ere aritzen da baina, guztiaren gainetik, abenturazale nekaezintzat du bere burua; esploratzea maite du, bidaiatzea, jende ezberdina ezagutzea... edozein espedizioren ezinbesteko osagaitzat du hori guztia, kirol erronka ororen osagarri.

    Born in Lemoa (Bizkaia, Basque Country), on 12th of December 1981, Alex Txikon is the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters. When he was no more than 3 years old, brother Javi, the one who taught him to love mountaineering, took Alex to the top of Gorbea mountain, one of the most emblematic peaks in Basque Country. He joined Ganzabal Mountain Club at teenage and he was just 21 when reached the summit of his first +8.000m mountain: Broad Peak (8.051m) in Pakistan.

Now go back to Everest, this time you will go alone. He aims to climb 8,846m during the Spring 2021 season.

Alex Txikon’s taken part in more than 30 expeditions so far and has climbed up to the summit of 10 of the 14 highest mountains. After six years working as a high altitude cameraman for ‘Al Filo De lo Imposible’ spanish TV programme and for Edurne Pasaban’s ‘14x8.000’ project as well, in 2011 Alex Txikon felt having completed a stage and needed to start a new one looking for different ways of practicing mountaineering. That’s how he began to lead winter expeditions for which he is specially wellknown nowadays. These last years he has opted for projects that probably are less successful but much more valuables in terms of technicality, difficulty and commitment. North faces, new routes, alpine style, big walls… it’s a risky but immensely satisfying choice.

As well as alpinism, Alex Txikon practices rock climbing, BASE jumping and basque rural sport such as wood cutting; he’s an insatiable adventureman, loves exploring, travelling and meeting new friends, something which must be part of any project or goal he faces.
